Jalen Hurts to Miss Eagles' White House Visit With Trump

Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts will not attend the team’s upcoming visit to the White House, where President Donald Trump is scheduled to host the Super Bowl LIX champions on Monday. The Eagles defeated the Kansas City Chiefs to win the title and are expected to meet with the president at 4 p.m. on the South Lawn.

Hurts’ absence was confirmed by a source speaking to CBS News Philadelphia. While the White House stated that players who won’t be attending are doing so because of “scheduling conflicts,” it is unclear whether that is the sole reason behind Hurts’ decision.

Last week, at the TIME 100 Gala in New York City, Hurts was asked directly whether he planned to attend the White House event. The Super Bowl MVP, who was recently named one of TIME’s 100 Most Influential People of 2025, avoided the question, replying only with “Ummm,” and did not offer a clear answer.

Although Jalen Hurts is the only confirmed absentee so far, the full list of players skipping the visit has not been disclosed. According to Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie, while the team is proud to celebrate its victory over the Chiefs, attending the White House event is optional for all players.

This would not be the first time the Eagles have skipped a presidential celebration. In 2018, after their Super Bowl LII victory, their visit was canceled by President Trump just one day before the scheduled date, following disagreements over players kneeling during the national anthem.

Meanwhile, Eagles running back Saquon Barkley has responded to criticism after he was seen golfing with President Trump in New Jersey a day before the scheduled White House visit. Barkley took to X (formerly Twitter), writing, “Maybe I just respect the office, not a hard concept to understand.” He added that he had recently golfed with former President Obama as well, and looked forward to finishing his round with Trump.

The Eagles’ White House visit continues to draw public interest, especially as top players like Hurts choose to sit out.
