Liverpool are preparing for a memorable Premier League title celebration as they aim to clinch the crown against Tottenham at Anfield on Sunday. A draw would be enough to secure their 20th English top-flight title, moving them to 80 points — beyond the reach of second-placed Arsenal with only four matches left.
Under Arne Slot, Liverpool have been strong favourites to win just their second Premier League title in the modern era. Slot, who took over from Jurgen Klopp last June, said the team has a “big responsibility” to finish the job in front of their fans. Their last title, five years ago, was celebrated in an empty stadium due to Covid-19 restrictions, making this potential triumph even more special.
Slot urged his players in the matchday programme to seize the “wonderful opportunity” ahead, emphasizing that their hard work since last summer must now be completed. Fans have already begun gathering around Anfield, setting off flares and waving flags and scarves reading “Liverpool 20-time Champions” in anticipation of the celebration.
Facing a Tottenham side struggling in 16th place and without a win at Anfield since 2011, Liverpool are confident. Their expected title win would move them level with Manchester United as the most successful club in English top-flight history, each with 20 titles.
Liverpool’s success this season has been driven by the outstanding Mohamed Salah. Salah scored 27 league goals and provided 18 assists, setting a new record for goal involvements in a 38-game season. His form helped Liverpool race ahead as rivals Manchester City and Arsenal faltered.
Despite early concerns that Slot’s more possession-based style would need time to take hold after Klopp’s departure, Liverpool adapted quickly. A statement 3-0 win at Old Trafford early in the season underlined their intent. Even brief setbacks, such as losses to Nottingham Forest and Fulham, did little to slow their title charge.
Off the pitch, Salah and Virgil van Dijk secured two-year contract extensions, although Trent Alexander-Arnold may soon move to Real Madrid. Slot also managed to stay focused despite speculation about his key players' futures and even a two-game touchline ban after a heated derby with Everton.
While Liverpool fell short in the Champions League and the League Cup, Sunday’s match offers a chance to wrap up a remarkable domestic season in front of a full Anfield crowd.
