UC Berkeley Professor Shot Dead in Greece, Gunman Still at Large

A UC Berkeley professor was shot and killed in Greece earlier this month in what has been described as a tragic and shocking act of violence.

Przemyslaw "Pshemek" Jeziorski, an associate professor of marketing at the Haas School of Business, died on July 4 in a suburb of Athens after reportedly being shot at least five times by a masked gunman. The University of California, Berkeley confirmed his death to CBS News Bay Area.

Jeziorski, originally from Poland, had been teaching at UC Berkeley since 2012. He was widely respected in the academic community and known for his work in marketing research. Haas School of Business Dean Jennifer Chatman expressed deep sadness over his death, saying, “We are heartbroken by news of the tragic and sudden death of Professor Przemyslaw Jeziorski, a beloved member of our marketing faculty and Haas community.”

According to reports from Greek and Polish media, Jeziorski was killed near the home of his ex-wife, with whom he shared two children. The two had divorced six years ago, and she had since moved back to Greece. At the time of his death, they were reportedly involved in a child custody dispute.

CBS News Bay Area noted that it could not independently confirm details of the shooting or the custody matter. Greek authorities are continuing to investigate the case, and no arrests have been made so far.

Jeziorski’s brother, Łukasz, described the killing as a “terrible crime” on a European crowdfunding platform, adding that the perpetrator remains at large. “Our family is heartbroken, and we are doing everything we can to ensure that justice is served,” he wrote.

In addition to his academic work, Jeziorski co-founded Keybee, a startup that helps manage short-term rentals. His educational background included degrees and studies from the Warsaw School of Economics, University of Arizona, University of Chicago, and Stanford Graduate School of Business.

As the investigation continues, the UC Berkeley community and Jeziorski’s family are mourning the loss of a respected scholar, father, and colleague.
