Kenyans are facing higher fuel costs starting July 15, 2025, after EPRA announced a sharp rise in pump prices.
The Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) has adjusted fuel prices upward in its latest monthly review, citing increased global import costs. The review, released on Monday, confirmed that the price of super petrol will go up by Sh8.99 per litre, diesel by Sh8.67, and kerosene by Sh9.65.
According to EPRA, the main reason for the price increase is the rise in the average landed cost of petroleum products in June compared to May. Super petrol saw a 6.45% rise, moving from $590.24 to $628.30 per cubic metre. Diesel rose by 6.27%, from $580.23 to $616.59, while kerosene recorded the highest increase at 6.95%, jumping from $569.00 to $608.54 per cubic metre.
“These new prices include a 16% Value Added Tax (VAT) under the Finance Act 2023, the Tax Laws (Amendment) Act 2024, and the updated excise duty rates adjusted for inflation,” EPRA said in its official statement.
The new prices will be in effect from July 15 to August 14, 2025.
As a result, consumers across various towns will now pay more at the pump. In Nairobi, a litre of super petrol will cost Sh186.31, diesel Sh171.58, and kerosene Sh156.58. In Mombasa, prices will be slightly lower, with petrol at Sh183.00, diesel at Sh168.29, and kerosene at Sh153.29.
Kisumu residents will pay Sh186.27 for petrol, Sh171.90 for diesel, and Sh156.95 for kerosene. In Nakuru, super petrol will go for Sh185.46, diesel for Sh171.08, and kerosene for Sh156.12. Fuel prices in Eldoret will match those in Kisumu.
The latest hike is likely to increase the cost of living, with fuel being a key driver of transportation and commodity prices. As Kenyans grapple with rising economic pressures, many will be watching closely to see if the global oil market stabilizes ahead of next month’s review.
