Why Randy Orton Attacked John Cena on WWE RAW After Mania

John Cena’s unexpected attack by Randy Orton on WWE RAW after WrestleMania 41 shocked fans and left many questioning the motive.

The show opened with John Cena walking into the arena as the new Undisputed WWE Champion. Although he has taken on a heel role, the crowd still gave him a warm reception. However, Cena didn’t return the love. Instead, he reminded fans that they once booed him, and even though they now cheer him, he hasn’t forgotten their earlier reactions.

Cena added that the crowd had already wasted several dates of his retirement tour, and only 27 appearances remained. He then posed with the Undisputed Title, giving fans what he called a great photo opportunity. But the moment was cut short when Randy Orton appeared out of nowhere and hit him with a devastating RKO.

There are several possible reasons why Orton chose to attack Cena during this segment.

First, Cena’s remarks may have angered Orton. During his promo, Cena claimed he is the last “real Champion” the company will ever see. He went on to compare himself to wrestling legends like Bruno Sammartino, Roman Reigns, Triple H, and Stone Cold Steve Austin, suggesting that wrestling’s golden era would end with his retirement. Orton, also a veteran with a legacy of his own, might have taken offense and decided to make a statement with his RKO.

Second, the attack could be part of a setup for a future title match. WWE Backlash 2025 is set to take place in St. Louis, Missouri—Randy Orton’s hometown. The sudden attack could be a storyline move to spark a championship match between Orton and Cena at that event, making it personal and high-stakes for both wrestlers.

Third, Orton may be chasing his 15th world title. Cena's recent win made him a 17-time World Champion. Orton, with 14 titles, may see this as the perfect moment to close the gap and prove he still belongs at the top of WWE.

Whether it was personal pride, championship ambition, or both, Orton’s actions have set the stage for a heated showdown between two of WWE’s most iconic stars.
