President Bola Tinubu has congratulated Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa on his re-election in the Ondo State Governorship election held on Saturday. The president also commended the peaceful conduct of the electoral process, according to a statement released by his media aide, Bayo Onanuga.
Tinubu praised Governor Aiyedatiwa and candidates from the 17 participating political parties for their maturity and purposefulness during the campaigns and election. He attributed the smooth execution of the polls to the state’s commitment to civility and urged political actors to maintain the same decorum in post-election activities.
The president highlighted the election as a significant test of the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) capabilities. He commended the electoral body for its preparedness, efficient deployment of staff and materials, and overall handling of the process. Tinubu noted that INEC earned public trust by successfully uploading more than 98% of election results on the same day, reflecting its commitment to transparency.
Additionally, Tinubu acknowledged the efforts of the police, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), the military, and other security agencies. Their professionalism, he said, ensured that peace and order were maintained throughout the election period.
The president encouraged candidates dissatisfied with the election results to seek redress through the judicial system, emphasizing that the courts provide a fair avenue to resolve disputes. He called on all political actors to continue prioritizing the unity and progress of Ondo State, regardless of the election outcome.
Tinubu’s statement underscores the importance of peaceful and credible elections in strengthening democracy and fostering trust in public institutions. By commending the stakeholders involved, he highlighted the collective effort required to ensure electoral success and encouraged political actors to sustain these standards in the future.
The Ondo election serves as a benchmark for Nigeria’s electoral process, showcasing progress in efficiency, transparency, and security.
