Nigerian singer Davido has announced that he will donate N300 million to orphanages across Nigeria in celebration of his 32nd birthday on November 21. The Grammy-nominated Afrobeats star shared this generous plan on his X page, revealing that the funds would support orphanages and charities working to prevent drug abuse and addiction among young people.
In his tweet, Davido explained that the N300 million donation would benefit several institutions dedicated to helping vulnerable children and young adults. He also promised that further details about how the money will be distributed would be shared soon.
"Once again, for my birthday this year, we’re donating to orphanages and a charity that helps young people stay away from drug abuse & addiction. This year it’s N300 million. Details to follow soon," Davido wrote.
This donation is part of the singer’s ongoing commitment to philanthropy. Davido has consistently used his platform and resources to give back to the community, particularly supporting orphanages across the country. In 2021, he raised N250 million through a Twitter fundraiser and donated it to orphanages, continuing his efforts the following year. In July 2023, he gave N237 million to orphanages to support their operations, and in February 2024, he donated N300 million to help alleviate the impact of economic hardship on these institutions.
Davido's charitable initiatives have been widely recognized, with the Coalition of Orphanages and Children’s Homes in Nigeria (COCHIN) praising his contributions in May. His generosity continues to reinforce his reputation not just as a talented artist but also as a philanthropist deeply committed to making a positive impact in society.
As one of Africa’s leading musical stars, Davido’s work both in and out of the studio continues to inspire and support those in need. His birthday donation is another milestone in his ongoing efforts to uplift and support the less privileged in Nigeria.
