Miss Universe Runner-Up Chidimma Adetshina Steps Away From Pageantry

Chidimma Adetshina, the first runner-up at Miss Universe 2024, has announced her decision to temporarily step away from pageantry. Speaking in an interview with BBC Pidgin, the Nigerian beauty queen explained that she intends to focus on personal growth, education, and exploring new career opportunities.

Adetshina made history as the first Nigerian to place as the first runner-up at Miss Universe after securing the second position at the competition held in Mexico. She described the achievement as a significant milestone but emphasized the need to prioritize her long-term goals.

“I want to put pageantry aside for now and focus more on my education and establishing who Chidimma is,” she said. “I want to delve more into runway modelling, acting, and explore many other areas. There are so many things I would like to try and see where my potential can take me.”

Her journey to Miss Universe has been marked by challenges and controversy. Adetshina initially participated in the Miss South Africa pageant but withdrew following criticism over her nationality and allegations concerning her mother’s documentation by South Africa’s Department of Home Affairs. She later joined the Miss Universe Nigeria competition, where she won against 24 other contestants to represent Nigeria on the global stage.

Addressing the controversies surrounding her withdrawal from Miss South Africa, Adetshina reassured supporters that she would provide clarity on the issue in due course. “People are really interested in the story. Like I said, I haven’t gone home yet, I haven’t heard anything, and I haven’t sat down with a lawyer or anything. So I can’t just talk about things,” she said. “Once I get everything sorted out, I will definitely open up and give people clarity on the matter.”

Chidimma Adetshina’s decision to step away from pageantry marks a new chapter in her career. With plans to explore acting and runway modelling while continuing her education, she aims to redefine her path and expand her horizons. Her historic achievement at Miss Universe 2024 continues to inspire many, cementing her as a trailblazer in Nigerian pageantry.
