Chuck Woolery, the charismatic host of beloved game shows like Wheel of Fortune, Love Connection, and Scrabble, has passed away at 83. Woolery died at his home in Texas, surrounded by his wife Kristen and loved ones, as confirmed by his friend and podcast co-host, Mark Young. He is survived by his wife, his sons Michael and Sean, and his daughter Melissa.
Woolery’s television career began with the launch of Wheel of Fortune in 1975, where he captivated audiences with his charm and humor. His co-host on the show, Susan Stafford, paid tribute to him, calling their time together “like magic.” In a heartfelt statement, she described Woolery as a warm and genuine person both on and offstage, sharing their deep friendship and mutual faith in God.
Woolery’s impact on television extended beyond Wheel of Fortune. In 1983, he became the host of Love Connection, where he coined the famous catchphrase, “We’ll be back in two minutes and two seconds.” He also hosted Scrabble, Lingo, Greed, and The Chuck Woolery Show, showcasing his versatility and enduring appeal.
In addition to his hosting roles, Woolery had a brief acting stint, appearing as himself in two episodes of Melrose Place in 1992. His contributions to the entertainment industry were recognized with his induction into the American TV Game Show Hall of Fame in 2007 and a Daytime Emmy nomination in 1978.
Before his rise to fame, Woolery had a diverse background. Born in Ashland, Kentucky, he served in the U.S. Navy and later pursued music, playing double bass in a folk trio and forming a psychedelic rock duo, The Avant-Garde, in 1967.
In his later years, Woolery turned to podcasting and became an outspoken conservative-libertarian and constitutionalist. Despite his political convictions, he refrained from discussing them in Hollywood, fearing professional repercussions.
Chuck Woolery’s legacy as a pioneer in television and a beloved figure in American pop culture will endure. His charm, energy, and contributions to entertainment remain an inspiration to many.
